Department of Chemistry trains Water Specialists

Various departments of the University of Malawi equip citizens with knowledge to enhance their work performance in different institutions. The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in the School of Natural and Applied Sciences conducted a Water Management and Hygiene training from 6th to 10th November, 2023, attracting 17 participants from various institutions, including water supply companies, non-governmental organizations, and other academic institutions.

Dr. Timothy Bizwick, the Head of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, expressed his appreciation to all participants and thanked the various institutions for sending their representatives to the training. He further encouraged them to excel and perform exceptionally in their respective workplaces, showcasing the knowledge acquired during the training.

Highlighting the significance of the training for both participants and the nation, Mr. Grant Kuntumanji, the Chief Lab Technician in the Department, explained that the training aimed to address gaps in how institutions and citizens manage water challenges. He detailed that the training covered four key topics: water sources and supply, water service monitoring, water treatment and purification, and water service administration.

One of the participants, Mbauwo John Gondwi from Northern Region Waterboard, expressed gratitude for the training. He emphasized the benefits and importance of the training, noting that it provided them with invaluable knowledge and skills. He promised that the participants would invest the acquired knowledge in their companies and share it with others.

The training concluded with the presentation of certificates to all individuals who attended the program.
